For the first time since August 8, Milwaukee Brewers Sal Frelick finally had a multi-hit game, as he played a huge role in Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on the road. After a brutal slump that saw him go 1-for-13 over his previous four games, Frelick got it going on Tuesday, as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. His single in the second inning drove Willy Adames home which also came before he stole a base.
In the fifth inning, Frelick had a triple after battling Erick Fedde in four pitches. That was followed by a single by Joey Ortiz that allowed Frelick to score a run.
“Sal’s been pretty consistent,” Murphy said after the game, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
“He hasn’t swung it great lately as far as barrels, but he’s capable. He’s such a winning player.”
With his solid performance in the series opener against the Cardinals, Frelick managed to raise his numbers to .261/.334/.336. And thanks in large part to Frelick’s slump-busting showing, Frankie Montas was able to secure a pitching win after pitching for seven scoreless innings against the Cards.
Frelick will look to sustain his newfound form, as the Brewers aim to further extend their six-game win streak. Milwaukee will have Tobias Myers on the mound as the starter this Wednesday, while the Cardinals will give the ball to veteran Kyle Gibson.
Frelick is just 0-for-3 in his career against Gibson, but he’s also drawn two walks off of the 36-year-old right-handed pitcher.
