The slide continues for the Milwaukee Brewers, as they lost their second in a row in the ongoing series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and third straight overall following a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Shohei Ohtani and company Tuesday night at home.
Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher Colin Rea Struggled in Loss to the Dodgers
It was also not a very good evening for Brewers starter Colin Rea, who got punished on the mound by the Dodgers’ relentless offense.
After the game, Brewers manager Pat Murphy shared his true feelings about Rea’s performance.
Via the Associated Press (h/t ESPN):
“He wasn’t his best, that’s for sure,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “He’s been throwing the ball so great. He had that one rough inning, but in typical Colin fashion, he sucked it up and pitched six innings for us. Other than that one inning, he threw the ball well.”
Rea took most of the damage in the five-run fifth inning by the Dodgers. He exited the mound after five innings of work after allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits (including four home runs) with four strikeouts. Rea is now 10-4 through 23 appearances (20 starts) in the 2024 MLB regular season with a 3.72 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.
Despite his struggles against the Dodgers, Rea’s 2024 season is turning out to be his best in the big leagues. He entered the Dodgers game with a 124 ERA+. For comparison, he only had an 88 ERA+ in all his previous seasons.
