Wednesday was a rough day for Colin Rea and the Milwaukee Brewers. Rea was absolutely clobbered by the San Francisco Giants in a 13-2 loss to the Giants on the road. The 34-year-old pitcher got shelled for 10 earned runs on 11 hits. Three of those hits were home runs and he also allowed a walk.
Despite Rea’s brutal start, he still got a positive take from Brewers manager Pat Murphy.
Via Eric He of the Associated Press:
“It seemed like every ball they hit, there was no fielder there,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “Tough one. But Colin hung in there, gave us four innings so we didn’t have to go into our pen any deeper. He didn’t have his great stuff, but I’m confident. … He’s probably a little worn out like a lot of guys are. But there’s no time for that. He’ll bounce back.”
Even the Brewers’ offense did not show much life, as Milwaukee went just 2-for-34 and was 2-for-11 when there was at least a runner on base.
After the Giants game, Rea saw his ERA rose to 4.21. For context, he entered the second contest of the Giants series with a 3.72 ERA. He also now is 12-5 with a 1.22 WHIP.
Milwaukee Brewers looking to finish the series on a winning note
The Brewers, who have lost five of their last seven games, will aim to get back on track this Thursdsay in the series finale against the Giants. Milwaukee will have Frankie Montas on the mound, while the Giants will give the ball to Hayden Birdsong.
