In an extremely decisive series, the Milwaukee Brewers went into their three-game series with the Chicago Cubs hoping to further their first-place lead within the National League Central division. Milwaukee took the first game 5-1, while the Cubs won the second game of the series by a total of 6-3. During the final game with the series tied at one game apiece, the Brewers scored seven runs through the first three innings en route to a 10-6 victory, and series win.
Milwaukee walks away from this series with a record of 32-23. They lead the National League Central division by four and a half games. After losing this series, the Cubs are now 28-28. Now, Chicago and the St. Louis Cardinals are tied for second place within the division. The Brewers have a must-win series at hand next as they face the worst team in the American League in the Chicago White Sox.
Milwaukee Brewers Outstanding 10-6 Win Against the Cubs
During the bottom of the first inning, Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich crushed a two-run home run into right-center field to give Milwaukee an early lead. In the next half inning, Cubs left fielder Ian Happ ripped a solo homer to right field to cut the Brewers deficit. At the top of the third inning, Cubs third baseman Christoper Morel was robbed of a home run by Brewers center fielder Blake Perkins. The Brewers would end up going on a five-run tear during the bottom of the third.
Brewers Solid Five-Run Third Inning
First, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames lined an RBI single into right field. During the next at-bat, Milwaukee’s catcher Gary Sánchez hit a two-run double to the left field wall giving the Brewers a 5-1 lead. Two batters later, Blake Perkins nailed a two-run home run to left-center field. Milwaukee now led 7-1.
Chicago would try to come back in this game. During the top of the fourth inning, Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson hit into RBI groundout to make it a 7-2 ball game. An inning later, Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger brought home Mike Tauchman. Then, Patrick Wisdom was hit by a pitch, which was able to drive home a run for Chicago, and it now made the game 7-4.
Brewers Take Home the Win
Christian Yelich brought home another run during the bottom of the seventh when he hit into an RBI groundout. A few batters later, Willy Adames drilled a two-run home run to left-center field, making it a 10-4 game. For Chicago, during the top of the ninth, a run would score after Christopher Morel reached base on an error, then Ian Happ hit a sacrifice fly. This would not be enough to take down the Brewers enormous lead as the Brewers won 10-6.
Brewers starting pitcher Bryse Wilson pitched four innings allowing three runs on six hits, and two walks while striking out just one batter. Both Christian Yelich and Willy Adames walked away from this game with three RBIs apiece. Gary Sánchez and Blake Perkins each had two RBIs in the win. Can this offense continue to stay hot during their series against the White Sox?
