Milwaukee Brewers rookie outfielder Garrett Mitchell sustained a shoulder injury during Tuesday night’s extra inning win against the Seattle Mariners. The injury occurred when he went diving headfirst into third base. In the bottom of that inning he made a hard throw to home plate and felt his shoulder subluxate. This has resulted in him being placed on the 10-day injured list.
According to WebMD, subluxate refers to when the bones of a joint shift but do not fully dislocate. This is sometimes referred to as a feeling of instability, or the sensation of the shoulder slipping out of place without true dislocation.
The Brewers have not provided an estimated timeline on his recovery. Garrett Mitchell and the Brew Crew just played their final game of a 10 game road trip and will return to Milwaukee soon. Hopefully a timetable will be provided in the near future.
With the Milwaukee Brewers placing Garrett Mitchell on the injured list, they have promoted another rookie outfielder from their farm system.
Joining the Brewers active roster is Blake Perkins. Perkins was signed to a Major League deal in the offseason. He previously played in the New York Yankees organization but had not yet made his MLB debut.
Fortunately for Perkins, he was able to make the Brewers series finale game against the Seattle Mariners in which he appeared as a pinch runner and scored a very important run in their come back victory.
Joey Wiemer is expected to take over in center field while Garrett Mitchell is out, so it will be interesting to see how much playing time Blake Perkins receives.
