Christian Yelich has been hitting the baseball well since the calendar flipped to May. Over his last 12 games he is slashing .348/.400/.630/1.030. He has collected 16 hits, four home runs, 12 RBI, and stolen four bases. During this stretch he also has been elevating the baseball.
Following a game against the Royals a reporter asked Christian Yelich if the recipe for him doing damage is getting the ball in the air. His response was indisputable.

Milwaukee Brewers star Christian Yelich had an indisputable response to elevating the ball question.
Christian Yelich responded to the elevating the baseball as a recipe for doing damage question by saying, “Yeah you can’t hit a grounder over the fence, so if you are going to do damage it’s gotta go in the air.”
This year statistics show that Christian Yelich has been hitting fewer ground balls. According to baseball savant his ground ball percentage in 2023 is currently 51.9%. In 2022 he was at 59.1% and 2021 55.7%. His MVP year he was at 52.8% and in 2019 42.8%.
In conjunction with this Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has pointed out that Christian Yelich’s average launch angle in the month of May is 9.9 degrees. If that stands throughout the entire month it would be his highest in a single month since 2019.
In the same interview where Christian Yelich had his indisputable response to the elevating the ball question he went on to say, “I’m really just trying to string good at-bats together. I’m not going up to the plate thinking about damage or home runs.”
Hopefully his success at the plate continues because when he is locked in and driving in runs the Milwaukee Brewers tend to win a lot of games.
