The Milwaukee Brewers have had an injured filled start to the 2023 season and that unluckiness has now found its way into their farm system. At the same time that big leaguer Garrett Mitchell sustained his shoulder injury, outfield prospect Sal Frelick sustained a thumb injury. This has resulted in him being placed on the Minor League injured list.
Both Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick sustained their injuries on Tuesday April 18, 2023. Mitchell is currently seeking a second opinion, but his shoulder may require surgical intervention. With Frelick injured, the Brewers called up Blake Perkins from Triple-A Nashville.
How serious is Milwaukee Brewers outfield prospect Sal Frelick’s thumb injury?
Per a report from Curt Hogg, Craig Counsell has indicated that Sal Frelick’s injury is thought to be minor and that he won’t be out for a long time. The organization’s second ranked prospect is currently slashing .232/.317/.321 in 15 games with four stolen bases.
Sal Frelick was placed on the minor league injured list with a left thumb sprain. He was in Milwaukee to get it looked at yesterday. “We don’t think he has to be out a long time,” Counsell said.

Unfortunately for Sal Frelick, the timing of his thumb injury may have prevented him from being promoted to the big leagues. For now he will have to recover, but depending upon the prognosis of Garrett Mitchell’s shoulder it’s possible that we see Sal Frelick with the Milwaukee Brewers in the not too distant future.
