The Milwaukee Brewers have won five games in a row and are six-and-a-half games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the National League Central Division. They are also nine-and-a-half games ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds, and 11.5 games ahead of the last-place, Craig Counsell-led Chicago Cubs.
It was a 4-2 victory over those Cubs, highlighted by a Jackson Chourio grand slam, that gave Milwaukee their latest victory. However, it now appears that they may have lost yet another pitcher to the injured list. While the Brewers’ pitchers have done a stellar job keeping Milwaukee in games and in first place, it is becoming harder and harder for them to keep them healthy.
The Milwaukee Brewers Have Numerous Pitchers on the Injured List
As Brewers fans are well-aware, injuries have plagued both starters and relievers since even before Spring Training began. All-Star starter Brandon Woodruff was ruled out for the 2024 season after having shoulder surgery on an injury he suffered last year. All-Star closer Devin Williams has yet to appear in a game this season due to stress fractures in his back.
Since the season began, the Brewers have had to put a starting rotation’s worth of pitchers on IL. Jakob Junis just returned from the injured list after making just one start during the first week of the season. Aaron Ashby also missed the start of the year with some arm issues. Joe Ross is currently working his way back from injury in his first season back in the Major Leagues since 2021. DL Hall is currently working his way back from a knee injury
Wade Miley and Robert Gasser have each been ruled out for the season after needing Tommy John surgery.
In the bullpen, JB Bukauskas and Abner Uribe (minors) are on the injured list. Closer Trevor Megill has spent some time on the list as well.
The Milwaukee Brewers Place Jared Koenig on the 15-Day Injured List
The hits just keep on coming for the Brewers, too. Earlier today, the team announced on social media that left-handed reliever Jared Koenig was heading the 15-day IL with tendonitis:

Koenig, who has started five games as the Brewers’ “opener,” is 7-1 on the season with a 1.66 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. He has appeared in 29 games and has 36 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched.
Rob Zastryzny is a former Cubs reliever who pitched for Chicago from 2016-2018. After not appearing in the Majors for three years, Zastryzny ptiched for the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels in 2022. Last season, he appeared in 21 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA.
This year in Triple-A Nashville, Zastryzny is 4-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 28 games.
