The Milwaukee Brewers are in first place in the National League Central Division despite the numerous injuries that have befallen several of their players. This is especially true of the starting rotation, which has now seen four pitchers placed on the injured list: Wade Miley (out for season), Jakob Junis, DL Hall, and Joe Ross. This does not even account for Brandon Woodruff, who was ruled out for the season during Spring Training.
Milwaukee’s position players, too, have been bit by the injury bug, though not nearly as bad as the pitching staff. Rhys Hoskins is currently on the IL with a hamstring injury, but he should be back relatively soon. Christian Yelich spent 10 days on IL earlier this season with a back injury.
Before the season, centerfielder Garrett Mitchell suffered a broken bone in his left hand during batting practice. He has not appeared in any game yet this season as a result. However, a recent report suggests that he is less than a month away from returning to the Brewers’ lineup.
Milwaukee Brewers Centerfielder Garrett Mitchell Is Targeting a Return in Mid-June

When Mitchell first injured his handed, manager Pat Murphy said, “I would think 4-to-6 or 6-to-8 [weeks], unless it’s displaced,” when referring to a timetable for Mitchell’s return. That was back on March 25.
Back on April 9, it was reported that Mitchell was aiming for a June 1 return. However, that date has been pushed back a bit.
According to Todd Rosiak of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers are planning to have Mitchell back with the Major League club on June 17 when they start a series against the Los Angeles Angels:
Garrett Mitchell begins taking swings off a tee Friday in Boston.
Next major steps would be Arizona to accrue ABs and then a minor-league rehab stint.
Mitchell’s goal is a return to the field in the Angels series in Anaheim on June 17.

Mitchell missed all but 19 games last season with a shoulder injury.
Milwaukee Brewers Outfielder Garrett Mitchell Was Having a Hot Spring Training

The loss of Mitchell for the beginning of the season was a real blow to the Brewers’ offense. In 14 games this spring, Mitchell was hitting .319/.385/.426 with a home run, eight RBI, and two stolen bases.
In his injury-shortened 2023 season, he had hit just .246/.315/.446 with three home runs and seven RBI. But again, he only played 19 games. In 2022, he was first called up to the Majors for a 28-game stint with Milwaukee, and he hit .311/.373/.459.
If Milwaukee can get that kind of player back on June 17, it will go a long way to help the lineup.
