Dan Plesac is currently the Milwaukee Brewers all-time saves leader with 133. He spent his first seven seasons with the Brew Crew and was a three time all-star. The pitching blood continued in his family as his nephew had been a key figure in the Cleveland Guardians rotation for quite some time.
This is in reference to starting pitcher Zach Plesac. He emerged as a solid pitcher in 2019 when he made 21 starts for Cleveland and had a 3.81 ERA. A year later, the shortened 2020 season, he made eight starts and had a 2.28 ERA. The two seasons after that he had slightly higher ERAs of 4.67 and 4.31, but has really struggled in 2023 to the tune of a 7.59 ERA.
With his increasingly worsening performances the Cleveland Guardians elected to DFA Zach Plesac in order to make room on the roster for Triston McKenzie. Over the next week he can either be traded by the Guardians or claimed by any team off waivers.

Zach Plesac’s designation for assignment means that should a team claim him they will also gain the remainder of his team control and minor league options. He’s currently making $2.95 MM in his first of three years of arbitration and has multiple minor league option years remaining. Even though he would be a resurrection projection for any team, his team control and roster flexibility makes him an intriguing player to consider. This is even more true in a year that starting pitching is at a premium.
