The Milwaukee Brewers thrashed the Chicago White Sox on Friday night, smacking 23 hits (none of them home runs) on their way to a 12-5 victory. The game initially was a back-and-forth affair that saw the lead change four times in the span of four innings. Trailing 5-4 in the seventh inning, Milwaukee erupted for six runs in the frame, and then tacked on two more in the eighth.
Of 10 Brewers batters that stepped into the batters box, eight of them had multiple hits. Three of these players had three or more hits, each of them batting at the top of the Brewers’ lineup. Brice Turang had three hits, as did William Contreras.
Christian Yelich had a season-high five hits and five RBI in the win. Unbeknownst to him, he also tied a franchise record.

Yelich had one of his best performances in recent memory, collecting five hits in a game for the first time since 2019. While he did not hit a home run, he had two doubles, including a hustle double on a ball that looked like it was going to be single. As the ball slowed down in the outfield, though, Yelich knew he would be able to make it to second base ahead of the throw.
After the game, Yelich was a guest on MLB Network. There, he was informed that his five-hit performance, the third of his career in a Brewers uniform, tied Paul Molitor for the most such games in franchise history.
When asked what he thought of that achievement, Yelich said:
“He obviously raked, so, if you’re talking Paul Molitor in anything, you gotta be doing a good job. Cool little stat. I had no idea, but yeah, kind of a wild night for us tonight.”
Molitor had a total of seven five-hit games in his career, four of them coming after he left Milwaukee. Seven five-hit games is the fifth-highest total in Major League Baseball history, as well.

Going into the game, Yelich was batting .297/.386/.532. After going 5-6 at the plate, his slash line jumped to .325/.406/.564.
His two doubles on the night also gave him 300 for his career. 154 of those have come in Brewers uniform, which ranks 21st in franchise history.
His next milestone will be when he hits his next home run. Currently, Yelich is sitting on 199 career home runs. 140 of those have come during his time in Milwaukee, which ranks him 13th on the team’s all-time list.
