The Milwaukee Brewers faced the New York Mets in the wild-card round last year in the playoffs, with the Mets getting the best of the Brewers. It was the second straight season that Milwaukee lost in the wild-card round.
Spring training for the 2025 MLB season is right around the corner. There will be a lot of storylines for the Milwaukee Brewers entering the 2025 MLB season. To win the division for the third consecutive season, they will need to make a couple of more moves before the season begins.
Milwaukee Brewers Urged To Sign Former New York Mets Starting Pitcher Jose Quintana
Quintana pitched for the Mets during the 2024 season. He pitched better in the second half of the season and it led New York to get to the NLCS before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games.
Patrick McAvoy of sportsillustrated.com thinks that the Brewers should sign starting pitcher Jose Quintana before the start of the 2025 MLB season. McAvoy said:
“The Milwaukee Brewers have the means to go out and make another move.
Milwaukee added a starter in Nestor Cortes and should get Brandon Woodruff back into the fold. While this is the case, the Brewers’ starting rotation seems like it could use one more piece if the club wants to be considered one of the contenders in the National League.
One affordable starter the Brewers should consider is José Quintana. He spent the last two seasons with the New York Mets and is coming off a campaign in which he logged a 3.75 ERA across 31 starts.
Quintana now is 35 years old and is projected to land a two-year deal worth just over $16 million. If you can get a veteran starter and former All-Star for roughly $8 million per year, you absolutely should make that move. Especially if he can go out and give you an ERA below 4.00.
The veteran starter hasn’t had an ERA above 3.75 since 2021 when he spent time with the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants.”
When Quintana last pitched in the regular season against the Milwaukee Brewers on 9/28 against the New York Mets, he struck out nine batters in 4.1 innings pitched. Some teams could use some starting pitching depth. Milwaukee still could fill out its back end of the starting rotation heading into the 2025 MLB season.
Jacob Misiorowski Could Be X-Factor Instead
There could be another reason why the Milwaukee Brewers didn’t sign Jose Quintana or another starting pitcher by now. Prospect Jacob Misiorowski will be at spring training for Milwaukee. He will be one of the top prospects in camp and it will be interesting to see if he stands out.
There is a chance that Misiorowski is in the Brewers’ plans for the 2025 MLB season. However, it wouldn’t hurt Milwaukee if they signed former New York Mets pitcher Jose Quintana to a one-year deal just to have depth in the starting rotation.
