The Milwaukee Brewers stay hot. They collected their sixth win in a row Tuesday night when they added to the woes of the St. Louis Cardinals in a 3-2 victory at Busch Stadium to kick off a three-game series the right way.
Key to the success of the Brewers in that series opener was their pitching. Frankie Montas pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just a hit with a walk with three strikeouts through 89 pitches. Milwaukee’s bullpen then got the job done, particularly Devin Williams, who shut the door on the Cardinals with a scoreless trip to the mound in the bottom of the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
“He’s a cold-blooded guy, man,” Montas said of Williams while talking to media members in the locker room after the game (h/t Sportskeeda).
“He’s a fearless dude. Anytime that you’re in the position to win, he comes into the game. You feel pretty good about winning the ball game, for sure,” Montas said.“When you have a guy like that, you’re not nervous at all. He has not been a two-time Reliever of the Year for no reason.”
Montas doubled down on the confidence Williams gives him and the Brewers whenever the latter is on the mound.
“When that guy’s in the game, you feel pretty good about winning the ball game. Like I said earlier, he’s a cold-blooded dude. Like, he ain’t afraid of nothing. You know, bases loaded, he goes, ‘I got this.’ He’s Devin Williams for a reason.”
Williams has been incredible since returning from a long absence. Through his first eight appearances this season, Williams has garnered a 1.13 ERA and 0.88 WHIP through eight innings.
