The 2023 MLB draft is only a few months away. During the first ever draft lottery the Brewers did not make any headway in regards to their draft position and they will pick 18th. Before July 9 arrives various sites are providing updated projections. Experts around Major League Baseball recently did a round one mock draft and they had the Brewers selecting a star third baseman out of Texas Christian University.
Milwaukee Brewers mock draft has the team selecting third baseman Brayden Taylor out of Texas Christian University.
Texas Christian University has never had a position player selected in the first round of the MLB draft. Brayden Taylor, a third baseman, is looking to make history in that regard. The left-handed swinging infielder can play second base and shortstop too, but he doesn’t possess the typical quickness needed to stick around long term at those positions.
At the plate Brayden Taylor projects as a 20-25 home run type of player. He sacrifices a little bit of his hit tool by looking to constantly pull balls to the right side, but he does typically make good contact and is not afraid to work deep into counts.
Through May 5, 2023 he is hitting for a .267 batting average with 15 home runs, 39 RBI, and eight stolen bases. He has walked 38 times and struck out 43. In 2022 he hit for a .314 batting average with 13 home runs and 50 RBI’s.
According to the MLB draft prospects board Brayden Taylor is the 22nd ranked prospect. It would not be unusual for the Brewers to select him with the 18th pick. If selected this 20 year old could become Milwaukee’s first true third base prospect in quite some time.

A 268 hitter in college! That doesn’t translate to the big leagues to me. I would rather take the risk of a a high schooler with upside. A small market, like the Brewers needs to hit it big on a first round pick because they’re not going to acquire it through free agency. What about replenishing the pitching? There’s little representation in the minor league top 30 for pitching prospects
