1 Thing Milwaukee Brewers Callup Jacob Misiorowski Will Have To Clean Up in Big Leagues

The Milwaukee Brewers called up top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski on Tuesday, slotting him for his major league debut against the Cardinals on Thursday. At Triple-A Nashville, the 23-year-old has been sitting hitters down with a fastball clocked at over 100 miles per hour, recording a 2.13 ERA in 63.1 innings. He has struck out 80 while allowing only 38 hits, including just four homeruns. There is, however, one thing Misiorowski will have to clean up in order to get big league batters out – namely, his up-and-down command issues.

Misiorowski’s Command Is a Work in Progress, But He Has Owned Triple-A Batters

After being summoned to Nashville toward the end of last season, in 2025 Misiorowski began the year at Triple-A for the first time in his professional career. Walks have been a problem throughout his four minor league seasons; he has issued 140 free passes in 233.1 innings, a rate of 5.4 BB/9.

Control remains an issue, but Misiorowski has shown improvement. While still high, his 4.4 BB/9 would be the lowest figure of his career. He has also cut down on hit batters (only one compared to 13 last year) and wild pitches (two versus 15). The fact that this improvement has come at the highest level in the farm system is an encouraging sign.

Of course, few starting pitchers achieve sustained big league success with a high walk rate. Even with the strides he has shown, Misiorowski will have to keep the base on balls in check to merit an extended stay with the Brewers. As good as he has been in the minors, he cannot count on getting MLB hitters out with the same ease, and they don’t need any help.

That said, Misiorowski has been truly dominant at the upper echelon of minor league competition. Opposing lineups have mustered a .175 batting average and .520 OPS against him, notching six extra base hits in 217 at bats. Despite his at times still erratic arm, this raw dominance won him a callup to The Show.

Milwaukee Brewers Newest Starter Was on Promising Roll in Minors

In his last Nashville start, Misiorowski pitched five innings of shutout ball, surrendering just two hits. He allowed three walks and struck out seven. Of his 68 pitches thrown, 63.2% were strikes, among his best outings this season. That performance followed his worst of the season: five earned runs on three hits, six walks and a hit batsman in two innings. Of 12 total starts, that was only his second allowing more than a single run.

Before then, Misiorowski was on a roll, both overall and in the walks department. In seven appearances, four of which lasted at least six frames, he walked four batters once, two another time and one or none in the rest. The Brewers would love to see him replicate that type of groove.

Thursday, he will face a St. Louis offense that ranks fourth in batting average, seventh in OBP and 10th in OPS. They are, however, only 18th in walks drawn. Whatever happens, his debut makes for one of the most anticipated events in Milwaukee’s season thus far.
