Milwaukee Brewers GM Matt Arnold is about ready to begin his first regular season as the man in charge of the Brew Crew. There has been a lot of work put in to form the current team and roster decisions still have to be made before opening day next week. Recently, Matt Arnold joined Mike Heller and Bill Schmid on 97.3 The Game Milwaukee to discuss a variety of topics including contracts, David Stearns, and the World Baseball Classic.
Milwaukee Brewers GM Matt Arnold appeared on 97.3 The Game Milwaukee for an interview.
One question that Matt Arnold was asked was in regards to the difficulty in the decisions to retain players such as Willy Adames, Corbin Burnes, and Brandon Woodruff.
Matt Arnold responded, “It is a challenge and you are always going to be faced with these kinds of things, especially when you have good players. And that’s a good thing, especially when you are in a small market, you’re going to have to make some tough decisions and that’s the reality of where we are. But we are going to do everything we can to hang onto the core that we have. That’s really important to us, it’s something our ownership would like to do, we certainly would like to keep our good players here as long as we possibly can, we understand the constraints and the reality of where we are in the small market, that make us become more creative.”
Another topic of discussion was in regards to the upbringing that Matt Arnold had under David Stearns and how that looks going forward.
“He still works with us. I still talk to him almost everyday whether it’s text or phone or email. Just picking his brain on all kinds of stuff.”
Lastly, Matt Arnold talked about the World Baseball Classic atmosphere and the excitement for star relief pitcher Devin Williams and prospect Sal Frelick participating in the tournament and playing in front of that many people. Arnold said, “In a way, that’s preparing him for a World Series.”
