The Milwaukee Brewers magic number to clinch the National League Central division title is one. This means that a singular Brewers win or Chicago Cubs loss will result in the Brew Crew popping champagne and celebrating an accomplishment that few believed they could achieve this year. Due to Wednesday’s scheduling it is possible that the magic number may reach zero before Milwaukee takes the field.
When do the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs play on Wednesday, September 18.
On Wednesday the Brewers will wrap up a three game series against the Philadelphia Phillies with the first pitch slated for 6:40 PM CT. Meanwhile the Chicago Cubs will play the Oakland Athletics during the day with the first pitch scheduled for 1:20 PM CT. This means that if the Cubs lose that the Brewers will clinch the division before starting their game against the Phillies.
The Milwaukee Brewers have been a dominant force in the National League Central over the last seven years.
Since 2018 the Brewers have been racking up National League Central division titles. Once they clinch in 2024 they will have won the division four times in the past seven years and three times in the last four years. Milwaukee has had an impressive extended run of successful baseball seasons and this year has been one of their most exciting teams.
What in store after clinching the 2024 National League Central division title?
Once the division is secured the Brewers next goal will be winning enough games to secure a first round bye in the playoffs. Two division winners will get to bypass the Wild Card Series and that is determined by which two teams finish with the best overall record. Currently Milwaukee trails the Los Angeles Dodgers by two games and the Phillies by four.
