The Milwaukee Brewers will have the 20th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The first three rounds of the 2025 MLB Draft will take place on July 13, in Atlanta, Georgia.

This is where the 2025 MLB All-Star Game will also take place. There are a lot of interesting MLB Draft prospects that will be available when the Brewers are on the clock at number 20. One prospect to keep an eye when Milwaukee is on the clock is North Carolina Tar Heels catcher Luke Stevenson. He is projected to be one of the first-round picks in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Milwaukee Brewers Linked To North Carolina Tar Heels Catcher Luke Stevenson In Latest MLB Mock Draft

Jonathan Mayo of mlb.com created his latest 2025 MLB mock draft on Thursday. With the 20th overall pick in the 2025 draft, he has Milwaukee selecting Stevenson from North Carolina. Mayo said about this potential selection,
“There aren’t a ton of catchers to consider in the first round this year. Stevenson is on a short list with power at the plate (30 homers in two years for the Tar Heels) and excellent defensive skills.”
Stevenson on MLB.com is the 19th ranked draft prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft. He is 20 years old and bats from the left side of the plate, but also throws right-handed. Stevenson is 6’1″ and weighs 200 lbs.
Some of the scouting report for the Tar Heels catcher according to MLB.com is as follows,
“Stevenson could have signed for top-five-rounds money as a North Carolina high schooler in 2023. He opted instead to stay local and play for the Tar Heels, and now he enters 2025 as the best all-around catcher and top college sophomore in the Draft. He claimed North Carolina’s starting job as a freshman, slammed 14 homers last spring and played with the U.S. collegiate national team during the summer.
A physical left-handed hitter, Stevenson has a propensity for hitting balls hard and launching them in the air. His power plays from left-center to the right-field foul pole and could translate into 25 homers per season. He has a reasonably disciplined approach but struggles to make contact against breaking balls and changeups.”
He and Ike Irish from the Auburn Tigers are projected to be the only catchers drafted in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft. This draft class is loaded with shortstop prospects. Maybe Milwaukee would lean toward taking another shortstop or infield prospect in this draft rather than drafting a catcher.
There is a good chance that the Brewers could take Stevenson here because although William Contreras is the starting catcher for Milwaukee, they may need another catcher in the farm system incase Jeferson Quero does not pan out. Quero has dealt with injuries, and he is the second-ranked prospect in Milwaukee’s farm system. The Tar Heels catcher could be an interesting choice in the 2025 MLB Draft for Milwaukee.
