When the Milwaukee Brewers traded Caleb Durbin to the Boston Red Sox earlier this week, it left a huge hole in the infield. This was, of course, because Milwaukee also sent Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler to Boston in the deal. The three players made up the Brewers’ entire third base depth chart on the Major League level.
And while infielder David Hamilton was one of the players Milwaukee got back from the Red Sox, the fact remained that the Brewers had very few Major League ready players who could play the hot corner on a regular basis.
And so, Milwaukee has agreed to a one-year contract with veteran Luis Rengifo.
The Milwaukee Brewers agree to contract with Luis Rengifo

According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, the Brewers and Rengifo are in agreement on a $3.5 million contract for the 2026 season. The deal includes a $10 million mutual option for 2027:

Rengifo gets $3.5 million guaranteed from the Brewers, per source. He can earn another $1.5 million in incentives, and the deal includes a $10 million mutual option for 2027.

Last season, Rengifo appeared in 147 games for the Los Angeles Angels, the only team he has played for up to this point in his career. He played every position for them except for first base, catcher, and pitcher while hitting .238/.287/.335 with nine home runs and 43 RBI.
In 2024, though, he hit .300/.347/.417 with six home runs and 30 RBI in 78 games.
Looking at Milwaukee’s roster, it is likely that Rengifo starts the year as their third baseman, but can slide into a utility role once prospects they are waiting for that can also play third base are ready.
