The Milwaukee Brewers have been quiet in the free agent market this off-season. They re-signed Wade Miley and Colin Rea to deals while also adding Eric Haase and Joe Ross. Outside of that they have executed several trades that have netted them big league players 1B/DH Jake Bauers, INF Oliver Dunn, and RHP Taylor Clarke.
Whether it is a big or minor deal the Brewers tend to be one of the more active teams in the trade market. One team that recently was in the headlines in regards to players availability was the Los Angeles Angels. MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal specifically mentioned four players.
The four players mentioned by Rosenthal were INF Luis Rengifo, OF Taylor Ward, OF Mickey Moniak, and LHP Jose Suarez. Two of these players could make sense as trade targets for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Brewers: Two trade targets to consider from the Los Angeles Angels.
- Brewers trade target: Luis Rengifo
GM Matt Arnold loves versatile players with team control and Luis Rengifo checks both of those boxes. The infielder played 65 games at second base last year, 37 at shortstop, 23 and third base, and 21 games between all three outfield positions. On top of that he is a switch hitter at the plate.
Between both his positional versatility and switch hitting ability Luis Rengifo could easily carve out an everyday role on the Brewers. A bonus here is that over the past two seasons he has hit 17 home runs and 16 while posting wRC+’s of 103 and 114. He is under team control for two more seasons and MLB trade rumors projects his 2024 arbitration salary to be $4.2 million.
- Brewers trade target: Jose Suarez
A shoulder issue cost Jose Suarez a large chunk of the 2023 season, but between the 2021 and 2022 seasons the left-handed thrower covered 207.1 innings and posted a 3.86 ERA. He is under control for three more seasons and is projected to make $1.1 million in his first arbitration year.
Adding Jose Suarez would help improve the Brewers starting pitching depth. They recently parted ways with Brandon Woodruff and Adrian Houser. Even with a trio of talented pitchers in Robert Gasser, Jacob Misiorowski, and Carlos Rodriguez on the way another experienced arm would be beneficial.
