Milwaukee Brewers: Brice Turang Back in Lineup, Batting 6th, After Leaving Tuesday’s Game with Pinky Discomfort

Playing through a pinky issue on Tuesday, Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang launched his MLB-leading sixth homerun this month off NL Cy Young favorite Paul Skenes, as Milwaukee went on to crush Pittsburgh 14-0 for its 11th straight win.

Due both to discomfort and the blowout, Turang was replaced in the sixth inning by pinch hitter Andruw Monasterio. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to be a nagging problem.

Postgame, reporter Curt Hogg tweeted an update on the injury: “Nothing major, Turang says. It’s either an overgrown nail or a hangnail. Milwaukee manicurists, come forth.”

Forth Milwaukee manicurists apparently came, as Turang is back in the lineup for the series finale.

Swinging a red-hot stick in August, Turang’s blast off Skenes carried 435 feet to center, a monster blow off a pitcher who simply does not give up homeruns – seven in 144 innings coming in, before Skenes allowed two to the Brewers in four frames.

Slotted sixth in manager Pat Murphy’s lineup, the Gold Glove infielder is having a career year at the plate: 12 homeruns, 56 RBIs, and a .278/.344/.411 slashline. Turang ranks second in WAR among second baseman, trailing only the Cubs’ Nico Hoerner (4.0 versus 4.2).

The full lineup for Wednesday is below.

Facing a Brewers order loaded with lefty bats, right-hander Mitch Keller will toe the rubber for Pittsburgh. Including switch-hitters, William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn, and Joey Ortiz represent the only right-handed bats.

Taking the mound for Milwaukee will be Brandon Woodruff, who comes in with a 2.29 ERA seeking his fifth victory. Looking to win their 12th straight, the Brewers have climbed to -266 home favorites on the moneyline.

Grinding out a tough series against the Blue Jays (70-50), the NL Central rival Cubs risk slipping even further behind in the division. Ahead of the day’s action, Milwaukee holds a comfortable 7.5-game lead.
