On Friday night, the Milwaukee Brewers started a three-game series with the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. Milwaukee could not get the job done on Friday, even though they hit their seventh grand slam of the season it still wasn’t enough to overcome Los Angeles in an 8-5 defeat. Last night, the game was tied at three going into the bottom of the eighth. The Brewers were stunned when the Dodgers scored two last-minute runs giving Milwaukee no chance to come back in the ninth during a 5-3 loss.
Milwaukee is now 52-38 on the season. They lead the NL Central by five games over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals. For Los Angeles, they’re now 55-35. They lead the NL West division by seven games ahead of the second-place San Diego Padres. The Brewers will take on the Dodgers one more time before starting a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.
Milwaukee Brewers Last Minute 5-3 Loss to the Dodgers
Four batters into the game, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames drove in an RBI single to left field. Two batters into the bottom of the first inning, Dodgers catcher Will Smith blasted his 15th home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field off of Milwaukee’s starter Freddy Peralta. Smith becomes the first Dodger since Adrian Gonzalez to have homered in four consecutive at-bats. Also in the bottom of the first, Dodgers, right fielder Andy Pages hit an RBI force-out to extend Los Angeles lead to 3-1.
Brewers Tie the Game Up
At the top of the fourth inning, Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins smashed a solo shot to make it a one-run game for Milwaukee. This was Hoskins 13th home run of the season. It wouldn’t be until the top of the eighth inning when another run in this game was scored. Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich obliterated a solo home run, his 10th of the season to straightaway center field.
Dodgers Come Back in the Eighth to Win 5-3
Pinch hitter Miguel Vargas hit the game’s go-ahead home run to left field at the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Dodgers the lead. Only three batters later, Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani cranked his 28th home run of the season, a solo homer to right-center field. Milwaukee’s offense could not find any answers at the top of the ninth falling in this matchup 5-3.
