On January 25, 2018 the Milwaukee Brewers made two significant transactions. They traded with the Miami Marlins for Christian Yelich and also signed free agent Lorenzo Cain. That year Milwaukee made a deep post-season run, Yelich won the MVP award, and Cain was an All-Star. Following those events Yelich ended up signing a monster long term contract with the Brewers and Cain played with the team until mid summer of 2022 when he was eventually let go.
After being designated for assignment and entering the free agent pool, Cain passed on a few playing opportunities and stayed home with his family. Earlier this spring he officially announced that he was retiring. On Saturday May 6, 2023 the Kansas City Royals held a special retirement ceremony for him at Kauffman Stadium.

With emotions running high, Lorenzo Cain had a difficult time talking during his retirement speech. He was very appreciative of everyone that had helped him along the way, especially his mother.
To wrap up his speech Lorenzo Cain said, “All I’ve ever tried to do in life is be a positive impact on somebody’s life and sometimes that’s just simply by doing it with a smile. And I tried to do that throughout my entire career. With everybody showing up here today, I know I completed my task.”
