Last year, near the MLB trade deadline, the Milwaukee Brewers made a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks that netted them reliever Shelby Miller and left-handed starter Jordan Montgomery. Both players were injured at the time of the trade, but the Brewers hoped that Miller, especially, would provide them with some much-needed bullpen depth.
Unfortunately, Miller’s tenure in Milwaukee was short-lived after he got healthy enough to pitch for the Brewers. In 11 appearances, he had a 5.59 ERA before another injury ended his season. He is still a free agent as 2026 Spring Training begins around Major League Baseball.
Montgomery, on the other hand, was never expected to pitch for the Brewers as he was recovering from Tommy John surgery last year. Milwaukee took on his contract in the trade in an effort to avoid having to send any of their prospects to Arizona in return for Miller.
Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jordan Montgomery signed with the Texas Rangers

Montgomery, despite not being able to pitch for the Brewers, still was present in Milwaukee and participated in community service events with the team. He lauded the clubhouse and culture and said that he would definitely be open to re-signing with the Brewers in free agency.
As is often the case, though, that did not happen. Instead, Montgomery is signing with the Texas Rangers, a team with whom he had some success earlier in his career:

Montgomery was traded to the Rangers in 2023 and went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA for them down the stretch. He was also on the Texas roster when they won the World Series that year.
In his career, Montgomery is 46-41 with a 4.03 ERA. His last appearance in the Majors came in 2024 with the Diamondbacks. He was 8-7 with a 6.23 ERA for them that year.
