The Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff has navigated numerous injuries this year. As a result Tobias Myers has come out of nowhere and developed into a top of the rotation arm, minor league signee Jared Koenig has become a trusted bullpen arm, Trevor Megill was a lock down interim closer, and so much more has transpired.
That being said the Brew Crew are close to welcoming pitchers like DL Hall and Bryan Hudson back from injury. Their return means that roster moves will have to be made. Here we look at two veteran pitchers who may be in danger of losing their roster spot as a result.
Milwaukee Brewers veteran pitcher #1 in danger of losing their roster spot.
One pitcher who the Brewers may have to cut ties with in the near future is Joe Ross. Ross signed a major league deal during the off-season despite his last big league experience coming in 2021. He pitched to a 4.50 ERA across his first nine starts but then a back injury cost him several months of the season.
Upon returning Ross has found himself on the outside looking in of the starting rotation as Milwaukee has gone out and acquired Aaron Civale and Frankie Montas. Ross still has value as a long reliever, but with DL Hall nearing a return inserting Hall into Ross’s spot would likely serve as an upgrade. The Brewers will need to clear a 40-man roster spot upon activating Hall from the 60-day IL and Ross seems like a potential option in order to make that happen.

Another player who the Brewers might have to make a tough decision on is Hoby Milner. In years past Milner had been a reliable left-handed option out of the bullpen, but this year he has wavered to the tune of a 4.92 ERA. Milner has not yet accrued five years of MLB service time and has one minor league option remaining, so he could find himself in Triple-A Nashville once Bryan Hudson is activated.
The Brewers could activate both DL Hall and Bryan Hudson as soon as later today, August 9. It will be interesting to see what roster moves they make when this occurs.
