The Milwaukee Brewers, to the dismay of many of their fans, traded two-time All-Star ace Freddy Peralta (along with Tobias Myers) to the New York Mets last week. Entering the final year of his contract (in which he will make $8 million), Peralta is coming off of a season in which he was 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA and finished fifth in NL Cy Young Award voting.
Of course, the Brewers were not ever going to be able to (or be willing to) match whatever contract offers he was going to get once he hit free agency, so they decided to trade him and get two of New York’s best prospects back for him: Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat.
As is the case with all trades involving prospects, it may take a while to determine whether or not Milwaukee really benefited from the deal. However, based on the message Williams sent to manager Pat Murphy, it sounds like he is well on his way to being a Brewers fan favorite.
New Milwaukee Brewers prospects Jett Williams says Pat Murphy will have to drag him off the field

Of course, fans in Milwaukee will not get to see Williams and Sproat play their first action with the Brewers until Spring Training starts. However, the fact that both immediately ranked among the top ten of Milwaukee’s prospects would indicate that they will both see and hear their names regularly as the year goes on.
Williams, who is the Brewers’ number three prospect now (behind Jesus Made and Luis Pena), revealed to the team’s beat reporters the message he sent to his new manager after he learned about the trade:
In addition to many other qualities that make him a good fit in Milwaukee, Jett Williams clearly has the toughness Pat Murphy wants his Brewers to embody.
He says he told Murph…
“You’re going to have to drag me off the field.”
Sounds quite familiar.

“You’re going to have to drag me off the field,” he told Murphy.
Williams hit .261/.363/.465 with 17 home runs, 52 RBI, and 34 stolen bases in 2025, a year he spent split between Double-A and Triple-A.
He can play second base, shortstop, and center field, which means the Brewers will likely plug him into any of these positions during Spring Training to see where they like him the best. That being said, Murphy loves players who can play a variety of positions, so his path to the Majors does not need to be glued to just one of them.
