The Milwaukee Brewers have been an active team when it comes to acquiring re-surging baseball players who went overseas for a fresh start. Not all of them have panned out but players like Eric Thames, Josh Lindblom, Thyago Vieira, and Colin Rea all come to mind.
On the contrary Milwaukee has also seen some of their former players elect to go play overseas. Eric Thames returned there for a second stint before ultimately retiring, Mike Brosseau briefly played in Japan last year, and now a former 2018 All-Star has signed in Japan with the Seibu Lions.
Former Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Jesus Aguilar has signed a contract with the Seibu Lions.
According to Robert Murray Jesus Aguilar is heading to Japan to play in the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization. A season ago he got a brief look in the big leagues with the Oakland Athletics and eventually signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves.
In between leaving the Brewers and the 2023 season he spent time with the Miami Marlins, Baltimore Orioles, and Tampa Bay Rays. His MLB career originally began with the Cleveland Guardians in which he was blocked from a starting gig by Carlos Santana.
At 33 years old and a decades worth of MLB experience it should be fun to see what Jesus Aguilar can do in Japan. If he plates well a return to the United States could happen, but only time will tell if he can find his power stroke at the plate or not.
