The Milwaukee Brewers and 29 other MLB teams on Monday have a new Top 30 prospect rankings list, according to MLB.com. Rookie outfielder Jackson Chourio officially graduated from the Brewers prospect pool. He was the second-overall prospect in all of baseball and was the top prospect in Milwaukee’s farm system.
They have drafted and developed well over the past several years. This is one of the reasons why the Milwaukee Brewers are 50-35 to start the 2024 season. Milwaukee is also in first place in the National League Central Division.
More prospects are waiting to be called up to the big leagues, but it depends on when it will be for them. The Milwaukee Brewers may need to trade some prospects to acquire starting pitching before the MLB trade deadline this season.
Milwaukee Brewers Prospect Catcher Jeferson Quero Is the New Number One Prospect In the Farm System
Brewers catcher Jeferson Quero is the number one ranked prospect in the farm system. He was the second-ranked prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system before Jackson Chourio graduated from the ranks.
Chourio has had a good rookie year for Milwaukee up to this point. He is only 20 years old. Jackson Chourio has appeared in 75 games so far this season for the Milwaukee Brewers. He has a .244 batting average with nine home runs and 34 RBIs, along with eight stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .289.
With the updated rankings, Jeferson Quero is ranked the 22nd overall best prospect in all of baseball. He is one of four prospects in the Milwaukee Brewers organization to be ranked in the Top 100.
Jeferson Quero only played in one game this season with the Nashville Sounds in Triple-A. He suffered a season-ending injury with a torn labrum and had surgery for it. Quero is now projected to reach the big leagues in 2025 because of the setback.
He could have been in the big leagues this season if it wasn’t for the setback. However, will Jeferson Quero ever be the starting catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers because of William Contreras?
Quero may need to be a catcher elsewhere to be a big-league catcher unless the Brewers have plans to use a platoon at the position in the future. During the 2022 season with the Biloxi Shuckers in Double-A, he had a .262 batting average with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs, along with five stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .339.
Jeferson Quero is only 21 years old. As long as he does not have a setback next year, he should be in the big leagues.
