The Milwaukee Brewers announced several roster moves on Monday, November 4. They revealed that a pair of pitchers were claimed off of waivers by other ball clubs and that two other players cleared waivers. Here we take a look at the players impacted in which those that cleared waivers have become free agents.
Two Milwaukee Brewers pitchers were claimed off of waivers by opposing ball clubs
Per the Brewers, right-handed pitcher Kevin Herget was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets and left-handed pitcher Rob Zastrynzy was claimed by the Chicago Cubs. In 2024, 33 year old Kevin Herget had several short tenures with Milwaukee in which he ultimately threw 11.1 big league innings, had a 1.59 ERA, and recorded one save. Rob Zastrynzy had less big league stints, threw 7.2 MLB innings, had a 1.17 ERA, but saw his season cut short due to elbow tendinitis.
Two Milwaukee Brewers players cleared waivers and are now free agents
Also announced by Milwaukee was that two players were placed on waivers and went unclaimed. Right-handed swing man Bryse Wilson and first baseman/designated hitter Jake Bauers are the two now removed from the 40-man roster. The roster transaction reads “outrighted to Triple-A” but Brewers reports Curt Hogg and Adam McCalvy have clarified that Bryse Wilson and Jake Bauers are now free agents.
Why did the Milwaukee Brewers make these moves?
One reason why the Brewers made these moves is because players on the 60-day injured list needed to be re-instated to the 40-man roster by Monday evening. In order to activate players like Christian Yelich, Oliver Dunn, Brandon Woodruff, J.B. Bukauskas, and Robert Gasser they needed to free up some room on the 40-man roster.
