The Milwaukee Brewers are finding their groove again. After losing two games in a row to finish their series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, the Brewers are now on a two-game win streak, having defeated the Oakland Athletics on Friday (11-3) and Saturday (9-5).
Jake Bauers highlights Milwaukee Brewers’ approach on offense
The second win over the Athletics had first baseman Jake Bauers’ fingerprints all over it. The 28-year-old infielder went 1-for-3 with two walks, a home run, and three runs scored in that contest. Bauers and the Brewers also relied on small-ball tactics to generate runs.
Via Michael Wagaman of the Associated Press:
“We have a lot of guys in here who are committed to playing the right way,” Bauers said. “When you do that you put yourself in situations to score extra runs, to get insurance runs when you need them. That’s been the mindset all year and it’s probably going to continue to be the mindset.”
Throughout the Athletics game, the Brewers were able to manufacture 10 hits with seven of those being singles. Milwaukee also had the Athletics pitching staff issuing seven walks.
Getting people on bases has been the name of the game for the Brewers, who are ninth in the big leagues with 1,109 hits, third in walks (479), and third as well in on-base percentage (.332).
Brewers on the verge of sweeping the Athletics
The Brewers, who improved to 75-54, will look to sweep the Athletics this Sunday when they give the ball to Frankie Montas. On the season, Montas has a 6-8 record to go with a 4.57 ERA. He sizzled in his last start, as he tossed seven scoreless innings with just a hit allowed in a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals last Tuesday on the road.
