Milwaukee Brewers outfielder is putting together an impressive season in just his first year in the big leagues. On Thursday, the 20-year-old Venezuelan shone again, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 6-4 win at home during a series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Chourio made noise right out of the gate, as he sent a ball 421 feet deep for a two-run home run in the first inning, giving the Brewers an early 2-0 lead. Milwaukee’s victory against the Dodgers, a legitimate World Series contender — the favorite to win it all this year, even — made Chourio a bigger believer in his squad.
Via the Associated Press (h/t ESPN):
“We know we have a really good team here and we know we can compete with anybody,” Chourio said through a translator. “Our job is to go out there and show it on the field.”
The Brewers are surging again. They dropped the first two games of the Dodgers series but showed resiliency with two thrilling victories in a row to get back on track. Milwaukee has won seven of seven of its last 10 games and has momentum going into another series at home versus the Cleveland Guardians is scheduled to start this coming Friday.
During Milwaukee’s Thursday win at the expense of the Dodgers, Chourioalso became just the sixth player 20 years old or younger in the history of the big leagues to have at least 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases in a season. So far in the 2024 MLB campaign, Chourio is batting .274/.320/.441 with 15 home runs and 16 stolen bases. The future is bright for Chourio, whose eight-year extension deal worth $82 million with the Brewers in 2023 might be starting to look like a bargain.
