The Milwaukee Brewers made a few roster moves prior to their series finale against the Colorado Rockies. Brewer Hicklen was one player impacted by the teams transactions as they optioned him to Triple-A. Milwaukee then moved Christian Yelich to the 60-day injured list (freed up a 40-man roster spot) and promoted Isaac Collins to the big leagues. Collins got to start Sunday’s finale and collected a pair of MLB firsts.
Isaac Collins collected his first MLB hit and stolen base during his Milwaukee Brewers debut.
During his MLB debut Isaac Collins started in left field and was placed eighth in the batting order. His first at-bat came in the second inning in which he collected a single. After a nice ovation from the fans at American Family Field he proceeded to steal second base. Collins got one more at-bat after the second inning but did not reach base.
The Colorado Rockies originally drafted Isaac Collins.
One hidden story line within Isaac Collins’ MLB debut was that he was facing the organization that originally drafted him. In 2019 the Colorado Rockies drafted him in the ninth round out of Creighton. The Milwaukee Brewers then acquired him in the Minor League Rule-5 Draft in 2022.
With the Milwaukee Brewers Isaac Collins has flourished.
Isaac Collins has put together two impressive Minor League seasons since joining the Brewers. In 2023 he spent all but three games in Double-A (saw three games of Triple-A action) in which his season numbers consisted of a .263/.419/.421 slash line, 77 walks to 56 strikeouts, and 29 stolen bases. Before his promotion this year in Triple-A he had a .273/.386/.476 slash line with 76 RBI and 24 stolen bases.
