The Milwaukee Brewers have been one of several teams this season affected by injuries to numerous key players. In this article we provide updates on three of them as Devin Williams, Joey Ortiz, and Garrett Mitchell all had noteworthy news surface.
Milwaukee Brewers injury update #1: RHP Devin Williams.
In Milwaukee on June 26 Devin Williams reached an important milestone in his recovery from lumbar stress fractures as he threw off the mound for the first time. Following this Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel posted on social media that, “It’s possible Devin Williams could return earlier than mid- to late July but not certain.” It will be worth monitoring how he bounces back from his mound session, but so far the early takeaway is that everything went well.
Milwaukee Brewers injury update #2: INF Joey Ortiz.
Against the Texas Rangers infielder Joey Ortiz was removed from the game during the sixth inning. There was an incident where he crashed into the tarp, but this was not the reason for his removal. Manager Pat Murphy indicated that Joey Ortiz had been dealing with a stiff neck since the Los Angeles Angels series, it was bothering him on Wednesday against the Rangers, and it is not serious.
Milwaukee Brewers injury update #3: OF Garrett Mitchell.
Garrett Mitchell has been on injury rehab assignment in Triple-A Nashville as a finger fracture had kept him sidelined since the end of Spring Training. He had been starting to heat up at the plate, but unfortunately during his last at-bat on Wednesday night he was removed after swinging at a pitch and appeared to be grabbing at his hamstring.
