Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell has been recovering from shoulder surgery after he sustained an injury to his labrum in April. So far he has been making good progress and per a report from Curt Hogg he will have an important consultation with a doctor this week to determine when he can return to game action.
Garrett Mitchell will have a doctors consultation this week to determine when he can return to game action (Milwaukee Brewers News).
The last time Garrett Mitchell was in Milwaukee, which was about two weeks ago, he opened up about his recovery from surgery. He also revealed that he had been doing some hitting drills, but had not faced live pitching yet.
With this new report from Curt Hogg, about him having a consultation regarding when he can return to game action, it is safe to assume that he has been progressing well and checking a lot of boxes. He is a young electric player so for the Brewers to provide him the opportunity to potentially play again this season is important.
If cleared to return to game action Garrett Mitchell would have to get some at-bats in the minor leagues. The Arizona Complex League season is complete and a few of the lower level minor league teams are in their last week of regular season play. Triple-A baseball goes until the end of September.
Hopefully Garrett Mitchell receives some encouraging news this week and he can start a minor league rehab assignment. It’s unclear if he would be able to play in the outfield and make diving plays, but he could excel in a pinch hitting or pinch running role.
