The Milwaukee Brewers did not find out until after the second game of the doubleheader on Monday between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves who they would face in the National League Wild Card Round. Milwaukee will face New York in the National League Wild Card Round with the first pitch at 4:32 p.m. CT for the first game.
Luis Severino (11-7 record, 3.91 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Mets, and Freddy Peralta (11-9 record, 3.68 ErA) will be the starting pitcher for the Brewers. These pitchers were the best-starting pitchers on their respective teams during the regular season.
Players To Watch For On the Milwaukee Brewers Against the New York Mets
Brewers manager Pat Murphy helped his squad win the National League Central for the second consecutive season with a 93-69 record. Murphy could very well win the National League Manager of the Year Award.
Shortstop Willy Adames is projected to bat cleanup for the Milwaukee Brewers. He played in 161 games during the regular season. Adames had a .251 batting average with 32 home runs and 112 RBIs, along with 21 stolen bases and four caught stealing attempts.
Catcher William Contreras is projected to bat third for Milwaukee. He played in 155 games during the regular season. Contreras had a .281 batting average with 23 home runs and 92 RBIs, along with nine stolen bases and two caught stealing attempts. His on-base percentage was .365.
Freddy Peralta pitched in 32 games this season for the Brewers. He has pitched in 173.2 innings and has given up 143 hits and 74 runs. Peralta walked 68 batters and struck out 200 batters.
Star Mets Players
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza is the first rookie manager in the team’s history to lead them to the postseason. New York finished with an 89-73 record during the regular season and the third wild card spot in the National League.
Shortstop Francisco Lindor hit the game-winning two-run homer for New York in the ninth-inning against the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Lindor played in 152 games during the regular season. He had a .273 batting average with 33 home runs and 91 RBIs, along with 29 stolen bases and four caught stealing attempts. His on-base percentage is .344 and he is projected to bat leadoff.
Third baseman Mark Vientos is projected to bat third for the New York Mets. He has played in 111 games during the regular season. Vientos had a .266 batting average during the regular season with 27 home runs and 71 RBIs, along with zero stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .322.
Luis Severino pitched in 31 games during the regular season for the Mets. He pitched in 182.0 innings and has given up 166 hits and 86 runs. Severino also walked 60 batters and has struck out 161 batters.
During the regular season, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the New York Mets in the season series 5-1. Milwaukee is looking to avoid losing in the wild-card round again this year. They lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks a season ago. The winner of the Brewers and the Mets series will have a date with the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS.
