The Milwaukee Brewers were division champions in 2023. It took a team effort in order to accomplish this in which several players were added as the season progressed. A few guys who joined after Opening Day and had roles in their success were Trevor Megill, Julio Teheran, Josh Donaldson, Jahmai Jones, Carlos Santana, Mark Canha, and Raimel Tapia.
Recently one of these 2023 season contributors became available. This article will explore if a reunion should be considered.
Julio Teheran has opted out of his minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs.
After being designated for assignment prior to the playoffs last fall Julio Teheran has been a part of three different organizations. He signed a minor league deal with the Baltimore Orioles in February, signed with the Mets after Opening Day in which he was designated for assignment after one MLB outing, and then signed with the Chicago Cubs. Joel Sherman has reported that he is now opting out of his minor league deal and will be a free agent.
The Milwaukee Brewers just optioned starting pitcher Tobias Myers to the minor leagues.
Prior to Saturday’s game against the Chicago White Sox (Brewers handed them their 10th straight loss) they optioned rookie pitcher Tobias Myers to the minor leagues. He had been operating in a starting pitcher role for them. Janson Junk was recalled as a result, but he is not a guarantee to fill Myers spot in the rotation. With a 40-man roster spot open Milwaukee could consider signing Julio Teheran to have him start on Wednesday, June 5 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Julio Teheran had success with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023.
After signing a few days before Memorial Day 2023 Julio Teheran went on to have immediate success with the Brewers last year. Through six starts he had a 1.53 ERA and covered six or more innings on four occasions. He then gave up 13 earned runs in starts seven and eight and spent time on the injured list. He wasn’t able to recapture his early season success, transitioned to a reliever role, and was let go a few days before the regular season ended.
With the Brewers needing a starting pitcher for mid next week it’s possible that Milwaukee and Julio Teheran reunite. If this occurs his tenure would depend upon a few things including his performance as well as when Jakob Junis, DL Hall Joe Ross are able to return.
