One of the biggest stories to watch in Major League Baseball this offseason is the immediate future of Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta. A two-time All-Star, Peralta is coming off his best Major League season after going 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA. He also notched 204 strikeouts, his third consecutive season with 200+ strikeouts.
Earlier this offseason, the Brewers made the no-brainer decision to pick up Peralta’s $8 million club option for 2026. In an age where staff aces can make $20-$30 million a year, the $8 million salary is a great bargain for the cost-conscious Milwaukee franchise.
But 2026 is the final season in which Peralta is under club control. As has become the custom when their stars reach their final year of control, trade rumors abound throughout the baseball world. In the past, Milwaukee has parted ways with stars like Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader, and Devin Williams in order to get prospects back for them before they leave in free agency.
Some believe the same could happen with Peralta.
The Milwaukee Brewers are not close to trading Freddy Peralta

The Brewers have been fortunate to have been able to build great organizational pitching depth, and despite the expected departure of Jose Quintana in free agency, will still boast an accomplished starting rotation while having several young arms ready to step in when needed.
Peralta, though, has set himself apart from all others in the mix both due to his effectiveness on the mound and ability to stay healthy. These qualities, along with his affordable salary, make him an attractive trade target, but also are all reasons the Brewers would want to keep him.
And according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, there are no talks that have gained any sort of traction at the Winter Meetings:
“No deal appears close. Talks are fluid, and the teams interested in Peralta are also exploring free agents and trades for other starting pitchers.”
Rosenthal names contenders like the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, and Baltimore Orioles as teams that have expressed interest in trading for Peralta.
Additionally, the New York Mets, led by former Brewers general manager David Stearns, have inquired about the cost of trading for Milwaukee’s ace.
As mentioned, though, there are no talks that have gained any traction, and it seems as if there are no teams that will be willing to match the Brewers’ asking price for Peralta.
