At the beginning of the MLB offseason, the Milwaukee Brewers made it known that they were not actively shopping their ace, two-time All-Star Freddy Peralta. That being said, they also made it clear that they would listen to offers for Peralta, who is entering the final year of his contract.
Earlier this offseason, Milwaukee made the logical decision to pick up his $8 million club option for the 2026 MLB season, an incredibly low salary for a pitcher of his caliber. However, due to the fact that he is one of the best starting pitchers in baseball, he is not going to be able to be retained by the cost-conscious Brewers past this season.
These factors made him a coveted target on the trade market, albeit an expensive one as Milwaukee was asking for a hefty return.
And they finally got a team to offer one.
The Milwaukee Brewers have traded Freddy Peralta and Tobias Meyers to the New York Mets

According to multiple reports, the Brewers have agreed to a trade with the New York Mets. Peralta and right-handed starter Tobias Myers are headed to New York while two of the Mets’ top five prospects, Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, are coming back to Milwaukee.
Both Sproat and Williams are among MLB’s top-100 prospects.

Sproat was 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA at Triple-A last season and 0-2 with a 4.79 ERA in his first four Major League starts.
Williams, who plays second base, shortstop, and center field, hit .261/.363/.465 with 17 home runs, 52 RBI, and 34 stolen bases between Double-A and Triple-A last season.
Peralta was 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA in what was his final season with the Brewers. He ends his time in Milwaukee third in career strikeouts with 1,153. Only Yovani Gallardo (1,226) and Ben Sheets (1,206) had more. If he had been able to stay with the Brewers in 2026, Peralta likely would have been the franchise leader, having amassed 200 or more strikeouts in three straight seasons.
Myers was 1-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 22 games (six starts) for the Brewers in 2025. In 2024, he was 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA in 27 games (25 starts).
