The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Cleveland Guardians by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night.  This victory marked their second straight win against one of the top teams in the American League and will give them an opportunity for a sweep on Sunday.  Freddy Peralta was the starting pitcher on Saturday in which he pitched fantastic, but was removed after 81 pitches.

Freddy Peralta pitched a gem against the Cleveland Guardians.

2024 has been an up and down season for Freddy Peralta.  He entered Saturday night with a 4.11 season ERA in which after six innings of one run ball that lowered to 4.00.  Against the Guardians he allowed just four hits, walked two, struck out three, and the lone run he surrendered came via a solo home run off that bat of Josh Naylor.

The Milwaukee Brewers removed Freddy Peralta after throwing 81 pitches.

With a one run lead in the seventh inning Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy turned to his bullpen despite Freddy Peralta’s pitch count being in good enough shape to return.  Murphy’s decision worked as Joel Payamps, Jared Koenig and Devin Williams each delivered 1-2-3 innings in relief.

Freddy Peralta reveals why he did not return for the seventh inning against the Cleveland Guardians.

Post game Freddy Peralta told reporters that it was a mutual decision for him to not return in the seventh inning despite a pitch count of 81 pitches.   Previously he had thrown 90+ pitches in every outing dating back to April 30 when he threw a season-low 66 pitches.

“I knew that we had the guys fresh behind me [in the bullpen], and I was fine with that decision.  We [made] the decision together, and for me, it was the best decision because we were winning by one run. They already saw me two times, some of them at the top of the lineup three times.”

Milwaukee and Cleveland will play their series finale on Sunday, August 18 with the first pitch scheduled for 1:10 PM CT.
