Just before Wednesday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Frankie Montas was interviewed on air over at the MLB Network. One question asked to Montas was “what kind of advice” he usually gives his nine-year-old son, Michael, who also wants to be a pitcher one day.
Montas, however, said that he doesn’t really want Michael to become a pitcher, as he burst into laughter.
“To be honest I don’t really want him to be a pitcher. I want him to hit!,” Montas said.
Montas shared that Michael “loves baseball” and is having fun hanging in the clubhouse with his dad, even before when the pitcher was still with the Cincinnati Reds.
The 31-year-old Montas was traded by the Reds to the Brewers last July in exchange for Jake Junis, Joey Wiemer, and cash.
As for the game Wednesday evening, it did not turn out to be fine for Milwaukee, as the Brewers suffered a streak-snapping loss, 10-6. The defeat ended the Brewers’ six-game undefeated run that included Montas’ Tuesday start when he pitched seven scoreless innings in a 3-2 victory against the Cardinals.
So far in the 2024 MLB regular season, Montas has a 6-8 record to go with a 4.57 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 114.1 innings.
Montas is expected to make his next start on Sunday when the Brewers play the last game of a three-game series against his former team, the Oakland Athletics.
