The Milwaukee Brewers are off to a bad start during the month of September. On Sunday they lost the series finale against the Colorado Rockies by a score of 4-1. Their offense once again went dormant and in this particular game the last 23 Brew Crew batters were retired without reaching base.
After the second inning the Colorado Rockies dominated the Milwaukee Brewers.
To begin this rubber match the Brewers struck first as Rhys Hoskins delivered a base hit with two outs that scored William Contreras. Hoskins was granted the opportunity to drive in a runner in scoring position thanks to a throwing error by the Rockies a batter prior that extended the first inning.
After the Brewers collected two hits in the first inning their final hit of the game came in the second inning when Isaac Collins collected his first MLB hit. Collins then proceeded to steal second base but was left stranded as Andruw Monasterio struck out looking and Jackson Chourio went down swinging.
The final 23 Milwaukee Brewers batters went down without reaching base.
Unfortunately for the Brewers Isaac Collins’ hit in the second inning was the last base runner they had all game. The final 23 batter ended up going down without a fight as the Rockies had 1-2-3 innings from the third inning on. Milwaukee batters only struck out seven times in this game but they struggled mightily to generate hard contact off starter Kyle Freeland and were unable to get to the Rockies bullpen.
Hoby Milner surrendered a game altering three run homer in this contest.
Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta ran into trouble during the fifth inning of this game and was unable to get through it. With two runners on base and two outs Pat Murphy made the call to the bullpen in the fifth and brought in southpaw Hoby Milner to face left-handed hitting Sam Hilliard. The result was Hilliard launching a three run home run that gave Colorado a 4-1 lead.
The Milwaukee Brewers have gotten off to a rough start during the month of September. They have lost four out of their last five or if you extend it further five out of their first seven games this month. Their next games will be played out on the West coast as they take on the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks.
It’s pivotal that Milwaukee’s offense gets back to doing all the little things that made them successful all season. Once they start taking better at-bats and getting on base they can start using their speed and strategically bunting again to manufacturer runs. Hopefully the offense figures things out soon because the Brewers are still competing for a first round bye in the playoffs.
