Milwaukee Brewers fans have been fortunate to see their team win the National League Central Division in each of the past three seasons. Additionally, the Brewers have made it to the postseason in seven of the last eight seasons. Indeed, this is truly the Golden Era of baseball in Milwaukee in terms of fielding a competent and competitive team year in and year out.

There are, however, costs to fans who have followed this Brewers team for so long, and especially in the last eight years. Of all the players currently on the roster, only Christian Yelich and Brandon Woodruff remain from the 2018 team that kicked off this run of success.

The fact of the matter is that when it comes time or close to time for Milwaukee to pay their best players, they either trade them or allow them to walk in free agency. Willy Adames, for example, signed with the San Francisco Giants last winter. This year, Freddy Peralta because just another All-Star that the Brewers traded away for younger prospects.

Milwaukee Brewers fans want the team to keep William Contreras long-term

Indeed, it seems that every fan-favorite player is destined to leave Milwaukee at some point. William Contreras, who has won two NL Silver Sluggers at the catcher position while playing for the Brewers, seems like the next trade candidate when his years under club control come close to an end.

So when Milwaukee announced that they avoided an arbitration hearing with him, fans were quick to voice what they feel the next steps should be:

    Cool. Extend forever

    — Beer Cheese Benny🍺 🧀 (@BeerCheeseBenny) February 12, 2026

    Plz don’t trade him too

    — The Local Curd (@thelocalcurd) February 12, 2026

Come on Matt, do some work son to extend this guy!

    — Nitronick (@KcinOccom) February 12, 2026

Better extend him now before the damage is done

    — Ryan Bujak (@RyanBooj) February 12, 2026

As one can see, fans would love to see Contreras receive a contract extension that would tie him to Milwaukee beyond his arbitration years. Given their history, though, that does not seem like something the Brewers will do.
