At the end of the sixth inning on Saturday night, Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames got ready in the box with Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jaime Barria on the mound. With the pitch clock in good shape he started digging his feet into the box and upon engaging the pitcher he found Barria already in his pitching motion. This caused him to try and call “time”.
Home plate umpire Adam Beck did not grant Adames time and he called the pitch clearly above the zone for a strike. In frustration Adames stepped out and then started to plead his case. Unfortunately the pitch timer kept going and he was issued a second strike in the process.
This then caused Brewers manager Craig Counsell to come out of the dugout and subsequently get tossed for a record setting 26th time. The at-bat ended in Adames striking out swinging, but the pitcher had essentially been granted two free strikes. Following the strikeout Adames turned around to talk with the home plate umpire and got tossed for the first time in his career.

Milwaukee Brewers fans react to Willy Adames’ first career ejection.
First of all that’s BS that not being set would have never have happened if he had been granted time when he asked…not to mention the previous pitch was clearly a ball. Ump show there. Let’s throw guys out because we know we screwed up…that will cover it up.

Umpires need to hold up the pitch until they deem the hitter engaged

Proud of Craig and Willy! Get them both some beers

I think the most ridiculous thing is that the first strike wasn’t even close to a strike

Welcome to the ump show!

DO YOU KNOW HOW HORRIBLE OF A UMPIRE YOU HAVE TO BE TO MAKE WILLY ADAMES THAT UPSET???

1st ejection of Willy Adames’s career in his 6th season. That’s embarrassing for Adam Beck, on top of his god awful zone tonight. MLB umpires continue to be the biggest joke in sports

Adam Beck gives Willy Adames his first career ejection after 600 games and 2100 ABs. Very telling on how his day has been.
