Game one of the Brewers series against the Diamondbacks had a rough start. The Brewers struggled to get anything going offensively and a couple of errors made in the field ended up costing the Brewers the game. However, the Brewers might not be at fault. The offense did look flat and there was most likely some jet lag from the Brewers playing this series in a different time zone. However, the umpire is absolutely deserving of blame.
Scott Barry was the home plate umpire for the game and had a pretty questionable strike zone. Normally this isn’t a huge deal because it’s consistent for both teams but this was not the case. Barry was clearly favoring the Diamondbacks with his calls. It got so bad that commentators Jeff Levering and Vinny Rottino even commented on the rather unfair strike zone. After Barry’s scorecard was released there is no doubt that he favored the Diamondbacks in yesterday’s game.

As shown in this graphic Scott Barry favored at least one run for the Diamondbacks and it could be argued to be more with his questionable calls when the Brewers had runners in scoring position. Craig Counsell along with a few other players exchanged words with the umpire but nobody was ejected. Brewers fans were obviously not happy about this and did not shy away from complaining on Twitter about the poor calls. Here are some of their reactions:

The umpire saw the Brewers were 7-0 with Turang, Mitchell and Wiemer in the lineup and wanted to fuck that up for us

Now that we've decided Scott Barry is the worst umpire in baseball history, the #Brewers should stop swinging at terrible pitches.

Scott Barry is going to get grilled in his postgame report card.
This would be a bad high school umpire.
Can't have that at this level. Embarrassment to the game.

Yeah if that called 3rd strike to Wiemer is representative of this umpire…
Yikes.
