The Milwaukee Brewers are known for trading their best players before they hit free agency. Owner Mark Attanasio has long maintained that, as the smallest market in Major League Baseball, Milwaukee simply cannot afford to keep their top-tier talent once they run out of arbitration years.
Because of this approach, the Brewers have traded away star pitchers like Josh Hader and Corbin Burnes while they were still under team control because the team had no plans of paying them their market value in free agency. By doing so, Milwaukee added multiple prospects to develop/add to their team hoping that they can take advantage of their team-controlled years.
Freddy Peralta Wants to Sign an Extension with the Milwaukee Brewers

Earlier today, it was reported the Milwaukee’s ace, Freddy Peralta, has approached the Brewers about a contract extension. Unfortunately, he has not yet been successful in securing one.
Peralta is currently playing the 2025 season on the $8 million club option Milwaukee picked up after last season ended. He also has another $8 million club option for the 2026 season.
These option years came at the end of the five-year $15.5 million contract that he signed with the club in February of 2020. This contract bought out his arbitration years and, quite frankly, gave the Brewers an excellent deal as he emerged as one of their best pitchers during that time.
Of course, Peralta made the NL All-Star team in 2021, going 10-5 with a 2.81 ERA. Last season, his first as Milwaukee’s ace, he was 11-9 with a 3.69 ERA and 200 strikeouts. It was the second consecutive season in which he struck out 200 or more hitters.
Milwaukee Brewers Fans Want the Team to Give Freddy Peralta an Extension

So far this season, Peralta is 5-4 with a 2.69 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 77.0 innings pitched. Not only that, he has been the only starting pitcher in Milwaukee’s rotation who has stayed healthy (and up with the Big League Club) all season, making a Major League-leading 14 starts.
It is not often that a player of Peralta’s caliber makes it known that he wants to stay in Milwaukee, the league’s smallest market. Furthermore, he has been around the Brewers long enough to know that, should he be offered a contract extension, it will be below his market value.
Seemingly, he does not care. He wants to stay in Milwaukee.
And Brewers fans would love nothing more than to see him get an extension:
A player who wants to be a Brewer forever….,
Mark A….a cheap owner who cares more about soccer

Pay this man. Loyalty, consistency and the utmost in availability.

Can you pay him Mark??

Clearly, Brewers fans are frustrated with Attanasio for failing to pay their favorite players to stick around. And they are well within their right to feel that way. After all, the Brewers consistently rank in the top ten in all of baseball when it comes to attendance.
To put it plainly, fans support winners, and Milwaukee has been a very successful regular season team. There is no question that Peralta can contribute to a World Series team, and this fanbase is starving for a World Series.
Unfortunately, it does not seem like the owner feels the same way.
