After losing 10-2 on Sunday, but winning two out of three games in Detroit against the Tigers, last night the Milwaukee Brewers began a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Milwaukee’s pitching held it down, while the offense scored some much-needed insurance runs to take a 3-1 win during the first game of this three-game series at American Family Field.
With the win, the Brewers are 39-27. They currently lead the National League Central division by seven games. For Toronto, the loss has them at 32-34, fourth in the American League East division by 14 games. It will certainly be intriguing to see if Milwaukee can continue to extend their lead in the NL Central and make a push to win the division.
Milwaukee Brewers Excellent 3-1 Win Over the Toronto Blue Jays

This game started off scoreless through the first two innings. At the top of the third inning, Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk crushed his second home run of the year, a solo homer to left field. In the bottom half of the third, Brewers right fielder Jackson Chourio hit his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot ripped to left-center field. An inning later during the bottom of the fourth, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames lifted an absolute bomb to left-center field, giving Milwaukee a 2-1 lead. This home run was Adames 10th home run of the season. During the bottom of the fifth inning, Adames hit a sacrifice fly, putting the Brewers up 3-1.
After Milwaukee went up 3-1, both offenses would not score again. Toronto’s offense could not come up big in the clutch against the Brewers pitching, and Milwaukee’s offense put up enough insurance runs to get the job done. This was a great win for the Brewers, as they extended their lead in the division, and look to continue doing so as we head into the all-star break.
Top Performances from the Brewers Win Against the Blue Jays

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher, Colin Rea went seven innings on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out four batters during the win. After falling behind in the count against the first two batters he faced, Rea then threw first-pitch strikes to the final 21 batters he went up against. Trevor Megill recorded his 10th save of the season for Milwaukee. Willy Adames went two for three with two RBIs in the Brewers excellent win. Jackson Chourio went one for two.
Blue Jays starting pitcher José Berríos pitched five and two third innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, and a walk while striking out four batters in the loss. Only three Toronto batters recorded hits during the loss. Second baseman Spencer Horwitz went two for four, while Daulton Varsho and Alejandro Kirk went one for three. The big question for this Blue Jays team, is can they be more consistent and start pulling together a win streak?
