The Milwaukee Brewers, as a team, are in a pretty brutal offensive slump. After a four game streak that saw them score 7, 8, 7, and 17 runs, they have scored 7 runs combined in their last four games. Their 9-1 loss at home to the Detroit Tigers on Monday night was their third in a row and have dropped them back down below .500 again with an 8-9 record.
There is no getting around the fact that more than a handful of Brewers hitters have gotten off to slow starts this season. While Jackson Chourio extended his hit streak to 15 games after going 1-4 against Detroit, many other hitters continued to struggle.
Multiple Milwaukee Brewers Hitters Are Struggling Early in 2025

While each Major League Baseball season is 162 games long, a marathon and not a sprint, it is easy for fans to become frustrated when players, especially those making the most money on the team, do not produce early and often.
This is certainly the case for Brewers fans, who have witnessed the following players get off to dismal starts to start the year:
- Christian Yelich- .143/.262/.321, three home runs, 10 RBI
- Rhys Hoskins- .182/.315/.205, zero home runs, four RBI
- Vinny Capra- .100/.129/.200, one home run, three RBI
- Oliver Dunn- .188/.205/.260, zero home runs, five RBI
- Jake Bauers- .200/.368/.467, one home run, three RBI
- Isaac Collins- .208/.240/.333, zero home runs, zero RBI
There are, of course, others that are off to slow starts as well, but the players listed above play the most.
Meanwhile, down in Nashville, the Sounds first baseman is raking.
Milwaukee Brewers Prospect Ernesto Martinez Jr. Won International League Player of the Week

Whereas many Brewers players are struggling at the plate, including both of their first basemen, Rhys Hoskins and Jake Bauers, the Nashville Sounds’ starting first baseman is turning heads.
Ernesto Martinez Jr., a 25-year-old left-handed hitting tower of human being from Cuba, is off to a fantastic start. Earlier on Monday, it was announced that the six-foot-six slugger had won the International League’s Player of the Week Award:
Ernesto Martinez Jr. of your Nashville Sounds was named as the International League’s Player of the Week by the MiLB! Talk about #HitCity! Congrats, Ernesto!

During the week of April 8-13, Martinez hit .529 with two home runs and eight RBI.
For the season (12 games), the towering first baseman is hitting .317/.429/.512 with two home runs, 10 RBI, and a stolen base. He has also struck out eight times while walking eight times.
Hoskins, who is making $18 million this year and is a right-handed hitter, is likely not going to be benched in favor of the left-handed hitting Martinez any time soon. However, Brewers fans will surely be calling for the Sounds slugger to be called up soon if the offense does not improve.
