Milwaukee Brewers pitcher DL Hall was called up to be the 27th man on the active roster for a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds. Colin Rea got the nod during the day game and DL Hall the night game. Hall ended up tossing seven scoreless innings and his manager has confirmed that he has earned a role going forward.
DL Hall tossed seven scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds.
Against the Cincinnati Reds DL Hall’s numbers in the box score look very impressive. The southpaw gave up just four hits, walked only one batter, and struck out five. His final pitch count was just 83 pitches, his fastball velocity maxed out at 95.7 MPH, and his fastball velocity average was 94.3 MPH. He managed to do this during a hot day at Great American Ballpark in which he had to go through three jersey changes in order to make it through the game.
The Milwaukee Brewers have seen DL Hall deliver back-to-back solid big league starts.
Prior to Friday nights game DL Hall last started a game for the Brewers on August 11. That game also was against the Reds in which Hall tossed 4.2 innings, gave up one earned run, walked three, gave up three hits, and struck out nine. It’s clear that something has clicked for Hall and he is hitting his stride at the right time.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy has DL Hall included in his plans going forward.
Post game Pat Murphy was asked by Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel if DL Hall has forced his way into the Brewers plans going forward. Murphy responded by saying, “I think so, don’t you? His last start wasn’t bad either. He showed me a lot. Seven innings, four hits. One walk. I think he’s in everybody’s plans.”
It will be interesting to see what role DL Hall plays with the Brewers going forward. He’s likely to be removed from the active roster on Saturday when the team can only carry 26 players again, but it’s possible that he gets re-added to the big league roster on September 1 when rosters expand. If Milwaukee does this, and he spends the remainder of the year on the big league roster, they could preserve his final minor league option for he would have spent less than 20 days in the minors.
