On Monday, the 60-45 Milwaukee Brewers started a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves. The Brewers were able to take a defying 8-3 win during the first game of the series. This win comes in the wake of Milwaukee acquiring Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Frankie Montas. With another quality starter in the rotation, there should be no reason this Brewers team can’t win the NL Central division. The team also acquired Colorado Rockies reliever Nick Mears.
The Brewers now have a seven-game lead in the NL Central. For the Atlanta Braves, they are now 56-49. They trail the Philadelphia Phillies by eight and a half games in the NL East division. It will be interesting to see if the Brewers can capitalize and win this home series before heading out on the road.
Milwaukee Brewers Defying 8-3 Win Over the Braves
At the bottom of the first inning, Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes struck out the side. It wouldn’t be until the top of the fourth inning that we saw the game’s first run scored when designated hitter Marcell Ozuna crushed his 31st home run of the season to left field. An inning later, shortstop Orlando Arcia cracked his ninth homer of the year to center field to give Atlanta a 2-0 lead. A half inning later, Brewers designated hitter Rhys Hoskins mashed his 18th home run of the season to left-center field to make it a 2-1 game.
Brewers Come Back Big in the Latter Half of the Ball Game
During the bottom of the sixth inning, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames lined a three-run home run to left-center field, giving the Brewers the lead with a score of 4-2. An inning later, Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz thrashed an RBI triple to center field. Then, in the eighth, Brewers left fielder Jackson Chourio hammered a two-run homer to left field. Two batters later, Hoskins hit a sacrifice fly to make it an 8-2 ball game. At the top of the ninth inning, Braves catcher Sean Murphy hit his sixth home run of the year to left field to make it an 8-3 game. Atlanta could not make an epic comeback and would fall 8-3.
Top Performers from the Brewers 8-3 Win

Willy Adames went three for four while both Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick went two for four during the win. Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out eight batters. Holmes became the second pitcher since 1961 to record seven strikeouts during the first seven outs of his career.
