“.” – this is the fare of Craig Counsell in Wisconsin after leaving the Milwaukee Brewers.
He did not just leave the team, he left it for rivals.
Wisconsin sports fans’ world turned upside down when Counsell, the man with the most managerial wins for the Brewers, decided to sign with the Chicago Cubs in 2023 after nine seasons with the them.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel conducted a poll on who Wisconsins’ biggest sports villain is for 2024 and the 54-year-old might just win it by a mile.
The MJS profile on him reads:
The shocking announcement that Milwaukee’s favorite son had defected to the north side of Chicago after the 2023 season caused a lot of people to change their opinion on the all-time winningest manager in Brewers history.
He was certainly given a passionate round of boos when he returned to American Family Field in May.
Current poll result says he’s gotten more than 50 percent of the votes.
Counsell explained that his move to the rivals was more of him looking for new challenge.
“It’s a challenge with an organization that is very much in a good place and is just primed to do some special things. That part of it certainly is exciting and alluring. You know it’s a challenge. It’s going to be hard. It’s scary, because change is scary. But sometimes you need to push yourself out of that comfort zone and it makes it exciting,” he said in November of 2023.
